Adam Duncan, Viscount Duncan (1731-1804), Admiral. Present at the blockade of Brest in 1759; also involved at Belle Isle in 1761 and Havanna in 1762. He sat on the Court Martial of Admiral Keppel in 1779. In October 1797 a Dutch fleet was preparing to escort a large body of troops for the invasion of Ireland. Duncan, who had been maintaining a blockade, forced the Dutch into action capturing nine enemy ships together with their admiral.
