William 11 of Orange and Princess Mary, silver medal, 1650, by Peter van Abeele, bare head bust of William armoured and draped three quarters facing, the field decorated with tracery of orange branches, rev. bust of Mary, Princess of Orange profile left with hair wreathed in diamonds and pearls, the field decorated with roses and thistles, 64 mm, (MI. 393/17). This is a memorial produced following the death of William in 1650 from smallpox. His wife Mary was the daughter of Charles 1 and Henrietta Maria. A week after William's death their only child was born, the future William 111. He became King in 1689 following the flight of James 11.
