This pass had been planned by the Royal Zoological Society of Ireland for some time following its foundation in 1830. The suggestion was made that passes should be produced for members to give to friends for admission after 2pm on a Sunday. Coincidentally, at the time of the design, the London Society had made a gift of their newly born giraffe to its Dublin neighbour. Consequently, Woodhouse’s design portrays “Albert” born in London in 1841 and presented to Dublin 5th June 1844.
