The Great Exhibition, Entertainment at the Guildhall, , silver badge, 1851, by William Wyon, diademed head of Victoria left, rev. . ROYAL/ ENTERTAINMENT/ AT/ GUILDHALL/ 9TH JULY/ 1851, /EXHIBITION OF THE WORKS OF INDUSTRY OF ALL NATIONS, edge engraved, Daniel Cork Esq, Deputy, 36 mm (E 1465), with integral loop for suspension. Contained in original gilt lettered 1851 case. Extremely fine and very rare, especially with the case. £Sold
Daniel Cork was appointed Ward Councillor for Lime Street in 1843and Deputy in 1846. He was a City of London Commissioner and in 1850 became a Deputy of the City of London.
The City of London Court of Common Council agreed to pay £5,250 on a suitable banquet to celebrate the success of the Great Exhibition. Amongst the 2,100 invited guests were Royal and foreigh commissioners, British and foreign jurors, Superintendents of Classes and successful exhibitors. The date had to be changed from 2nd July when it was realised that this was the anniversary of the death of Robert Peel.
