Manchester, Church and King Club, , frosted silver medal, 1790, by L. Pingo, crowned and robed figure of George III standing holding a scroll with legend around, rev. THE/ THIRD ATTEMPT/ OF/ THE DISSENTERS/ IN THE SHORT PERIOD OF/ THREE YEARS/ TO OBTAIN A REPEAL OF/ THE CORPORATION AND TEST ACTS/ THOSE BARRIERS OF THE/ BRITISH CONSTITUTION/ WAS FRUSTRATED IN THE/ HOUSE OF COMMONS/ BY A MAJORITY OF CLXXXIX/ MARCH 11/ MDCCXC, 45 mm (BHM 344), contained within glass lunettes with integral loop for suspension and original shagreen case. Slight damage to the top of the glass lunette on the obverse, otherwise practically mint state. £Sold
The members of the club commissioned the medal, they being the most\"responsible and opulent neighbouring gentlemen\" in Manchester, to commemorate the defeat of the dissenters in Parliament.
