Queen Victoria, Visit to the City of London,
This William Wyon portrait of Queen Victoria was the one used as the portrait on the first postage stamp in 1840, the Penny Black.
The committee minute book records on 11th December that William Wyon was authorized to strike one example in gold for presentation to the Queen, 120 examples in silver and 350 in bronze. It is further recorded that ten mounted examples were presented, eight of them to members of the Royal family who attended the function.
