Clapham, James Balaam's School
It is interesting to note that the medal was produced by the silversmith John Edward Terrey and awarded to his son William.
The school also known as the Rectory-Grove School, was in Clapham Old Town. The school which appears to have specialised in taking foreign pupils achieved fame when, at the end of the Ashantee wars two unfortunate Princes, Quantamissah [William] and Ansah [John Ansah], son and nephew of the ruler, found themselves sent to England to Mr. James Balaam's School, where they were baptized and confirmed and where, according to the Journal for Civilization, they were given a "thoroughly good English education" remaining there till March 1840.
