Clapham, Clapham Rise, Gothic House, German,French and English Protestant School
The Athenaeum Magazine of 1844 carries an advertisement for the school which states that it is run by Baron Von Andlau and Madame Andlau and daughters from Northern Germany.
I am indebted to the Colnaghi Archive for providing the following information.
Dominic Ellis Colnaghi (1834-1908) who was British Consul first to Cyprus and then later to Florence.
He was the son of Dominic Charles Colnaghi (1790-1878) and Catherine Pontet (d.1881). Dominic Charles Colnaghi was the son and business partner of Italian-born Paul Colnaghi (1751-1833), who moved to London in 1785 to work at Antony Torre's print-selling shop.
While he was never active in the family business, Dominic Ellis Colnaghi did inherit a passion for art. He wrote "A Dictionary of Florentine Painters from the 13th to the 17th Century" which was published posthumously in 1928.
