This was in the possession of Edgar Goble, son of Thomas Goble, who was Masters Mate on H.M.S Victory at Trafalgar and who features in the famous painting by Benjamin West. The box was exhibited at the 1891 Royal Naval Exhibition at Chelsea Hospital and has remained with the family since that time.
With the box is also a contemporary miniature of Thomas Goble the Diploma Certificate for the 1891 event, acknowledging Edgars loan of items to the Exhibition. This is signed by the Prince of Wales. Also a large engraving of the Benjamin West painting and also other research concerning Thomas Goble. This traces the provenance of the box directly through four generations of the same family back to Trafalgar.
