East Kent Railway Life Ticket, silver pass, circa 1857, by G. Richards & E. Brown, East Kent Railway, rev. Life Pass/ Edwd. Twopeny Esqr. 29 mm, (D. W. -), with integral loop and ring for suspension. Very fine and very rare. £Sold
Edward Twopeny was chairman of the London, Chatham and North Kent Railway, which amalgamated with other companies in 1852. The following year being ratified as the East Kent Railway Company.
The Twopeny family were significant figures in Rochester being local solicitors.They were very involved with the development of the Old Bishop's Palace, Edward Twopeny being particualrly so.
One of the family, David Twopeny even had his initials carved into the Prior's Gate House in 1817, which is still there today, essentially graffiti.
