Birmingham, Inauguration of Aston Hall, white metal medal, 1858, by T. Ottley, conjoined busts of Victoria and Albert profile left, rev. imperial crown in splendour with conjoined shileds of Queen victoria and Prince Consort with legend around, 74 mm, (BHM. 2617). An edge knock on the obverse, otherwise good very fine. £Sold

Queen Victoria arrived by rail just after 12pm, and was escorted to a reception at the Town Hall, where the mayor presented a loyal address to her. After a second address to Prince Albert and his response, the Queen knighted the mayor. Sir John Ratcliff then escorted her to Aston Hall.
The Queen recognised"with pleasure the labour you have undertaken in providing thus worthily for the physical and intellectual improvement of the working classes, and I sincerely hope that this Hall and Park will prove a boon and a comfort to the people of Birmingham". After more presentations, Queen Victoria passed from the grand gallery to the balcony. She was received with the most deafening of cheers by the assembled thousands and then pronounced the park open.
