On the medal for the Opening of the London and Birmingham Railway in 1838, Joseph Frederick Ledsam, (c.1792-1863), is listed as deputy Chairman of the Company.
In his obituary it states that -
Mr. Ledsam was at the time of his death a magistrate for the counties of Warwick, Worcester, and Stafford, and deputy-lieutenant for one at least of those counties. He was also for many years Deputy-Chairman of the London and North-Western Railway, and Chairman of the Birmingham and Staffordshire Gas Company, also an active Governor of King Edward's School.
Amongst many public services for which the town is indebted to him may be mentioned his chairmanship for many years of the Committee of the Birmingham Musical Festivals, which have been in no small degree indebted to his assiduity, courtesy, and judgement, for their eminent success.
