The Reports of the Juries of the Great Exhibitions states: “Class VIII Models of Ships etc. Section B. Various objects connected with the Naval Service … Prize Medal awarded to Exhibitor No. 291, Lieut. James Rigmaiden R.N., 6 Harley Place London W1., Inventor and Manufacturer – for the model of his plan of lanyard plates, to set up standard rigging of ships, in lieu of rope lanyards and dead-eyes; the small space occupied by the plates allowing quarter-deck and forecastle guns to be trained to any angle, and not liable to fire, as with rope lanyards”.
