In 1761, the new King passed the rangership of the park from his aunt, Princess Amelia, to the Earl of Bute, much to the relief of the locals who had found her to be very unsatisfactory in her role. Bute relaxed the restrictions on entry to the park, although coaches still had to have a ticket to gain admittance. The Earl of Bute retained the position until 1792.
